Fighting COVID-19: UBA donates 28.5 million Naira to Ondo State Government

The United Bank for Africa Plc, through the UBA Foundation, has donated the sum of N28.5 million to the Ondo State Government as its contribution to the fight against the Coronavirus disease. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Olurotimi Obagaye, Regional Head of the bank, presented the cheque to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in his office on Monday. Obagaye, who expressed the hope that the donation would go a long way in helping the state in the fight against COVID-19, prayed to God to have mercy on the world. Responding, Akeredolu thanked the UBA Foundation and Tony Elemelu for the kind gesture. He said the bank had done well for the country and Africa at large, with the donation of such a huge sum of money, which was being shared among states.

COVID-19: Ondo State Orders Total Closure Of Markets

As part of measures to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ondo State had ordered partial closure of markets across the state. The directive advisedly, excluded life saving items such as food, water and medicines. It has been observed however, that residents have flagrantly disobeyed this directive which is a potent measure to avoid the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Compelled by this unwholesome infraction, Government hereby places a total ban on all markets across Ondo State with effect from Tuesday, 31st March, 2020. This ban is  irrespective of any item. The Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has tested positive for coronavirus. He is in self-isolation as required by the case management guidelines of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. He make this know on a live broadcast urging his citizens to be calm and comply with the rules of the Government making his Deputy Governor to be in charge of the state's task force.  He conclude that and urging it's citizens to stay home, stay save and remain healthy that he will be fine and better. This was confirmed in a statement by WAEC Head of National Office, Mr. Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan, on Friday. Missing Boy: Mother collapses, Court adjourned Prophet Sotitobire's case in Ondo

It was like watching nollywood movies when Mother of Gold Kolawole, the missing boy at Sotitobire miracle center, Akure, Modupe Kolawole yesterday collapsed inside Ondo State High court when she was giving evidence against Prophet Alfa Babatunde and five other members of the church. The situation created apprehension and generated emotions from people inside the court. She was being cross-examined by defence counsels when the incident happened inside the court’s witness box. This halted proceedings for some minutes as the court clerks came to her rescue while the prosecuting counsel calmed her down. Coronavirus: FG Orders Closure Of All Tertiary Institutions, Secondary And Primary Schools

The Federal Ministry of Education has ordered immediate closure of tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools nationwide following the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country and as part of measures to contain the spread. This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr Sonny Echono. According to a communique on Thursday, Arc Sonny Echono who gave the order on behalf of the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, also noted that all 104 Unity Schools in the country should close on the 26th of March, 2020 as a proactive step aimed at preventing the spread of the dreaded Corona virus. The Minister asked all the Principals of the Unity Colleges to fast track the on-going second term examinations and close shop until further notice. CAN Declares National Prayers Over Coronavirus

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has directed churches in the country to observe Sunday, march the 22nd and 29th as days of prayers against the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria and globally. CAN President, Reverend Samson Ayokunle also advised churches to strictly follow the guidelines for combating COVID-19 in all their gatherings as they trust God for victory over the plague. The christian body says it is not unaware of the ban on the presence of more than 50 people in a gathering so it is advising churches to conduct house cell based services, online services and in the absence on online facilities, they can break services into not more than 50 members per shift. The Christian Association of Nigeria also asked churches to provide alcohol-based hand sanitizers, soap and water and maintain at least one meter distance with anyone coughing or sneezing.

JUST IN: NYSC shuts down orientation camps nationwide over fear of coronavirus spread

NYSC members THE management of National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has ordered the immediate close down of all orientation camps  across the country over the fear of an imminent spread of novel coronavirus. A source in Gombe State told The ICIR Wednesday morning that the camp commandant for Gombe State orientation camp Commandant whose name was not given told corps members who are barely one week in the camp for the 2020 Batch A Stream 1 that the camp would close down on Wednesday. Feelers from states like Sokoto, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta and Osun revealed that scheduled activities  at the respective orientation camps have also been disrupted for fear of the spread of coronavirus. Jordan imposes state of emergency to curb coronavirus pandemic

Joran's King Abdullah has approved a national defence law that gives the government sweeping powers to enforce a state of emergency to help it combat the  coronavirus pandemic . The royal decree issued on Tuesday allows Prime Minister Omar al-Razzaz to impose curfews, close businesses and place restrictions on freedom of movement of the people. The law, enforced so far during wars and disasters, will be implemented "in a way that it will not impede on the civil and political freedoms of Jordanians, and to protect public freedoms and freedom of speech," according to the royal decree. Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor have terminated their contract with Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel. Following the termination which was through mutual consent, Mikel will not be paid any compensation as he agreed to give up all forward-looking rights and receivables. The midfielder’s contract would have run until 2021 had he stayed on at Trabzonspor. “The professional football player agreement between our company and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated. “With a mutual termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking receivables,” the club announced on its website. The Presidential Task Force on Coronavirus announced the decision after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chairman of the committee, Boss Mustapha, said the ban commenced immediately till further notice.
